I'll start by saying that I live in a fairly red area of a purplish state, so this guy is a Republican. In general, I do like seeing candidates at polling sites talking to their constituents/potential constituents. He approached my family, and asked us about whether a recently completed road-improvement project (the widening of a state highway) he pushed for in the district was easing congestion (it is). I noted that it was a state and Federal funding that made the project work (mainly state, though). He looked a bit surprised that I knew that, and I told him that I pay a lot closer attention to this kind of stuff than many of his constituents do.
The conversation moved to other stuff and while he stated that he is a Pro-Life guy (not surprising for these parts), he said something that surprised me. He said that he would be amenable to putting the abortion issue to a referendum on the state ballot. I told him that if he was the primary sponsor of such a ballot measure in the State Assembly, I would think about voting for him next time around. I got the feeling he was blowing smoke, but that's pols for you. As he got ready to move on, I said "one more thing, Sir: who won the 2020 Presidential election?" He replied: "Joe Biden is President." As a rejoinder, I told him: "One, I know who the President is, and two, THAT was a dodge."
For other stuff, the polling site was busy, but well staffed and well run.
