Well, 16000 steps so far today, including 5 or 6 trips up to the 50m level on the scaffolding... so OK, thank you! I took a series of more junior jobs since leaving rehab ward in June, increasing the activity level, basically using work as more rehab. Doing well, thanks, but if I look up without holding a fence or scaffold, l fall over like a penguin 😅 Is your project to move to Australia still in the offing? No, sadly, the stroke killed any chance of a visa on grounds of fitness. Ah, well.

That's 'cos France is civilised. I agree. However, I am an independent and so I can work for as long as I want. I am just too lazy to work 12 + hours a day... 😂

Could you explain for the board what “not fit” means as related to the visa. Meaning is it the country that requires a certain level of fitness to be able to live there - or is it just specific to your job.

I didn’t have to work overtime if I didn’t want to. But I often did. It put money in my pocket so I could do many things that I liked. Buy a new motorcycle or car, own a home, be able to rent the plane that I liked to fly. Own some very good firearms and ammunition. One time working for GM as a machinist. I was offered working during same days of our Christmas and New Year’s week off. We got paid holiday pay from the day before Christmas to the day after New Year. They had a very large machine to be taken apart and the part to be sent to Waterbury Farrel Foundry. They knew I worked there before working for them. And I knew that machine very well. They had to rent a special fork truck to handle the stamper I was taking out of that press. It was considered holiday hours. So I was paid double time, plus the holiday pay. I finished it in about four and a half days and they paid me for the five. Nice chunk of change. I think I wrote this here before about the tax almost like a week’s pay. I am not sure, three and a half days or four and a half. It was a long time ago. Later when I was a supervisor on salary. If I was needed for overtime, the first hour was regular pay. Any hours after, I would get time and a quarter. After their regular eight hours my men got time and a half.

Yeah, there's a medical profile thing for Aussie citizenship, being post-stroke, type 1 diabetic & combat PTSD diagnosed, plus arthritis, cataracts, macular degeneration & having a freakishly large penis all counted against me.

None of this appears to be contagious (least of all the large penis). I don't see why they're making such a fuss about it.

I suspect they don't want sime old wreck arriving, working 3 weeks, then needing lifelong care from hot nurses in tight uniforms. Bastards.

I don't know what kind of healthcare system Australia has, but I bet it's similar to the UK. As such, they would not be happy to have a probabe UK problem transferred to Australia by some guy with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel relocating. Limey's situation obviously isn't that bad, but clearly he has "conditions" that could lead to it. And he's probably in the latter half if not third of his time on this side of the topsoil. That may make them bastards, but conservative bastards who care at least a little about the national outgo vs national income. I wonder of UK would have a similar issue with a guy like limey wanting to relo from Australia? Might do a little research. Might not.

a little research indicates UK might be about like Australia. Found this form: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7ca36640f0b6629523ad65/entMEDform-pq.pdfcopy and paste of bottom of page 2 - emphasis added FOR OFFICIAL USE *Delete as necessary Recommendation of Medical Referee *1. In my opinion, there are no medical reasons to warrant my recommending refusal of entry to the United Kingdom. *2. I advise that for medical reasons it is undesirable to admit the applicant as he/she has been found to be suffering from , a disease or condition which might endanger the health of persons in the United Kingdom or require major medical treatment*3. Refusal of entry to the United Kingdom is recommended on the ground that the applicant is suffering from
, a disease which may interfere with
His/her ability to support himself/herself or his/her dependants.
*4. The applicant may submit himself/herself for further examination [after undergoing treatment] [after (date)]

I believe both Australia and New Zealand have socialized medicine. The tangent to this thread is how other countries manage immigration.

You failed to address the question of hot nurses in tight uniforms. Never having been there, I don't know for sure, but I bet their nurses are no hotter, on average, than UK or US nurses. The ones in tight uniforms are usually kinda fat, though. And hotness is a subjective quality. It also recedes in temperature as time goes by, progressing through fairly warm to tepid to cool to downright cold, as far as looks, but maybe not as far as temperament. Nevertheless, Mrs. Limey would take care of that problem, unless she's done with you, in which case she will encourage the budding romance that might develop. I believe we are the only first world nation with a for profit style healthcare system, and what it mostly does is make it more expensive. Not necessarily better, and in some cases not better at all. Just more capitalistic. Anecdotal evidence sometimes indicates Brits hate their helathcare sytem, but just try to change it. You think our social security system is the third rail of American politics? You will discover what the third rail of UK politics is right quickly.

The NHS is only struggling because it has, deliberately, been made to struugle, for a mix of ideological & commercial reasons. Actually, as the ideology is "make a lot of money", perhaps there's only one reason. If you go to www.hotaussienurses.aus you can make a more informed judgement on the hot nurse question.
