Assuming of course you see bread and circuses for the poor and harvesting them to fight foreign engagements on behalf of the donor class's monetary interests as "the right direction."

Lol. You're funny.
Now you're getting it ...
But at the same time... the Democratic Party is beholden to its donors ..as you seem to be admitting. And has also become the Party of War.
Is "more dependence on government" really the best the working poor can hope for?
Really?

www.nyclu.org/podcast/s2-ep-7-how-the-child-welfare-system-destroys-black-families-with-prof-dorothy-robertsThis is just the king of thing I am talking about when I criticize Democrats for being too conservative, too neoliberal. But my take away, as opposed to yours, is not to use this as as an argument against having a social safety net, but rather use it to say we are spending enough on taking care of people and we need to reorient our focus back to the common good. This is an argument for a social safety net not against it. And if that is our goal: building a better social safety net, I would argue the Democrats are your choice, relative to the GOP. That's where you have the greatest chance of moving things in the right direction, toward the left. I was assured it would all trickle down....

You do recall how many states Reagan won after Carter right? And then after 4 years of Reagan, for his second term, how many states did he win the second time around.
