October 2, 2024 In a wild moment during the Tuesday, October 1 vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News, Senator and 2024 Trump running mate JD Vance had to fact-check the fact-checkers and call out co-moderator Margaret Brennan when she, against the rules of the debate, fact-checked him and made, some on the right argued, a misleading argument about the Haitians in Ohio.
As background, CBS announced before the debate that moderators would not attempt to call out or fact-check false claims during the debate and would instead utilize live fact-checking on its website. During the debate, however, Brennan interrupted Vance, saying, “Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary protected status.”
Sen. Vance then shot back at Brennan, napping, “The rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact-check. And since you are fact-checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on.” Sen. Vance then described the actual legal process for obtaining the legal status Brennan described, connecting it to a Harris-backed immigration policy. |

Just as bad as a lie, isn't it? You're lying and saying you're going to do one thing and then you do the opposite. Vance's point isn't even really about legal vs illegal immigration, if the current administration "solved" that issue by issuing temporary permits to huge numbers of people. Pretending the minute details like this are what matter, instead of the actual situation that all indications show Americans care about, is just as bad as a lie as well. It is manipulation in an extremely similar way. |

Why not simply state that illegal immigration is overwhelming the social services of various cities, states and counties? It makes it hard for many of us to take them seriously when the rhetoric is so aweful. Instead, we have to wait for the talking heads and the base to decode what was meant and present THAT argument instead. Their messaging is just terrible, assuming the decoded versions are what's REALLY meant. The culture warriors on the extremes hear nothing but dogwhistles. |

This is a massive distortion of what transpired.
This is literally the only clip of the debate I watched. And to see how wildly it's being "misinformationized" by leftists and the media is fascinating. But tired and old by this point. Same old story, same old song and dance from the left. Gamble that people won't actually check it out in context because why would they need to? They have a thought leader to tell them what really happened.

He also complains not at all that CBS "fact checked" him but only points out that since they are going to rebut, he is going to rebut their rebuttal.
