We were so lucky here on the east coast of Florida. Our west coast is a disaster. I wish the best for all of them. Two were killed. One when a tree fell on their house.
We had a stiff wind last night, and rain still going off and on today. A breeze but not real bad. The sun is popping out right now, but it might disappear again, off and on.
I used an umbrella this morning walking the dogs. They got a little wet. It was not raining hard. Just a sprinkle with mild wind.
We were so lucky.

Sounded like it was going to be a disaster It is a disaster in the West coast. Multiple tornados as the storm travels north. It will take days to find those who stayed. They pulled from the Gulf one guy and his dog who were riding the storm out in a boat. 🙄

My old home in the mountains of Western North Carolina is a disaster area. 90% of my county is without power, it's gonna be a while until they recover.

I was listening in and talking to some post storm on hf radio - 14.325 and 7.268 and also on dmr (digital)
I don’t think the average person understands just how fragile our communication systems are. Police, fire, govt, coast guard, armed forces - none of their radios communicate with one another and so many systems have gone digital when power goes so do comms.
But it’s interesting to listen in on comms out of the emergency operations centers. When things go south, they go south fast.

That’s a good saying fids One of my favorite stories - I was coordinating comms between the palm beach eoc and the Broward county eoc who were each operating from school fallout shelters. Both had generators and both generators failed. So I was letting them all know where the nsew walls of the eye of hurricane wilma was. So they’d know when they could attempt a repair. But when they lost power, they had dialysis patients there, other elderly and in total close to 7000 people between the two buildings. In one of the buildings while it was dark, the toilets all backed up. So over 3k people and no where to go to the bathroom. The guy in my position on site called out asking what do I do The eoc head came back on the amateur frequency / repeater and said go to the far end of the building. Clear 4 classrooms of desks. Two for men, two for women. And tell people to start in the far corner and work there way out. My on site peer said ur kidding me right? And the guy drying responded, no, I’m not.

The only thing wrong with it is after hurricane Andrew, Broward county purposely built an emergency operations center out next to the west regional library that could withstand 200 mph wind. So I doubt they had only one generator, the place was designed and built to withstand ANY and all windstorm damage. So as usual you are misremembering it or you pulled it out your ass. Nice story petep.

The eoc i was communicating with was operating comms out of a fallout shelter- a school. They were not operating comms I’m discussing out of their own centers. Jesus you are stupid.
