Lol. More like they'd send some hitman to wipe nerve agent on a door handle. Any strike on a NATO member means the rapid dismantling of Russia's ability to project any kind of military power. Russia simply hasn't got the technology or military depth to fight NATO forces; we saw the mismatch in 1991 & 2003. Iraq's large, capable forces were closely modelled on Soviet/Russian organisation. An expeditionary force closely modelled on NATO forces. It was an absurd mismatch, like a school sports team taking on professionals. I'd assume Putin knows this.

I think more likely scenario would be striking forces, specifically U.S. forces, in places like Syria, Iraq, the Red Sea.
They're already sitting ducks for all kinds of attacks; Putin would just be arming the forces already attacking them.
Question is: who would want them. Probably not state actors. Doubt Assad does (doesn't want to open that can of worms).

However, "while the imminent weapons transfer was pulled back, Russia did deploy military personnel to Yemen to help advise the Houthis over a three-day period in late July, the sources said."

I can’t wait for all the freedom goodies we’re all going to share when we help Ukraine totally win this war and that’s going to happen in just a few short decades and why are you such a Fascist that you stand against it? Think of the Donbas region. You know. The Donbas region. It must be preserved as subject to Ukraine or Putin-Hitler will just march across Europe.

Helping to thwart the Russians? Keeping the Donbas free? Or are you bravely willing to sacrifice Ukrainian men so that Russia gets the Donbas anyway? Wow!

...This does not end well for the world. The fighting there has been brutal too much Ukrainian blood has been spilled. It's all or nothing. An inflection point will be reached shortly after the election. Regardless of who wins... ...NATO has only inacted article 5 one time. Guess by who. History can tell the future and it doesn't look bright 🤔✌️...

From the Wall Street Journal (paywall)
Not much information in this article about the actual subject of the headline.
An Eurasia Group analyst posted the following, which provides some additional context:
"Despite Houthi attacks on shipping, Russia has been exporting oil eastwards through the Red Sea in large quantities. At least three vessels carrying Russian energy have been attacked; no doubt satellite assistance was meant in part to prevent further unintended disruptions." ( Source)
