I'd make it 1 day in prison for every £/$ a politician receives from any source other than salary, and 2 days for every penny/cent offered by an individual, or the CEO & main shareholder & head of legal of any organisation offering such to a politician. This to apply 5 years beyond their term. Pay politicians serious money, and a 7 figure severence, so talented people want to do it. 10 years for CEO, main shareholder, and head of legal in any news organisation that lies about a candidate for election. Assets frozen & sanctions if guilty entities are foreign. I know someone at my church who works as a bank regulator, or some such thing. Not allowed by contract to earn a cent over her salary.

Good principle. When l was a Civil Servant, any other income (rent, investment, anything) had to be declared and was investigated. The offence "malfeasance in public office" carries jail time. We were not allowed any hospitality or gifts except under very strict conditions, and any such - even a coffee, tea, or plate of sandwiches- had to be declared.

Proportional Representation. Only UK, US, India & Belorus have FPTP systems. Every other democracy has PR.

I think so yes. I am more amused at the folks who want Russia to win having a fit over this, though. Including our dear, stupid Fobbit. Who should know better.

Pay them well, six figures would work, and make being a politician a civic duty. We don't want people attracted to politics because of money. We want them there because they are citizens, and democratic participation is the most genuine form of governance possible. That's why we select juries that way. Freon

The only thing that saves us is that the our enemies have to deal with the same quantity of lemmings we do. In the end, the best countries are the ones who manage their lemmings most effectively.
