With this agreement, Hungary will now be able to buy four more Swedish-made Jas 39 Gripen aircraft and extend its current support and logistics agreement by ten years, from 2026 to 2036.
The 14 Gripen aircraft Hungary already uses are part of a lease-purchase agreement and will be fully transferred to Hungarian ownership in 2026.
18 jets total, plus support contract.

I am aware of what Hungary already has in inventory, which are leased, BTW. Including two trainers. Did you really think I didn't look it up?

None of which changes the point.
All of this NATO diplomacy has been quid pro quo. And reveals potential issues and stumbling blocks in an alliance with (now) 32 member states.

Well, it's 30 years past when it should have expired, but didn't, so...may as well keep adding more allies, preferably democratic nations. What started as an alliance to counter international communism is morphing into an alliance of mostly democratic, western nations. Welcome Sweden.
