The Good News today is that the days have stopped shortening and for the rest of the year, until late Spring, will be getting longer.

No they haven't.
Sunset is no longer getting later but sunrise is still getting later resulting in shorter daylight.

Thanks, I stand corrected.  Solstice in this hemisphere will occur this year on December 22. I assumed, mistakenly, that an earlier sunset was equivalent to shorter days. |
