I'm old. I was a fan of the original Star Trek series and even found the 1970's Saturday morning cartoon interesting. Since then, the movies and various new series over the years has kept my interest but less and less as time went on. Age I guess. What I found surprising however, is the latest Star Trek universe has a cartoon to live action crossover. Didn't see that coming.

Did you know that there is an episode where mugatos are having sex?

Greg I thought the whole series was fun and more effectively evocative of the original series (without slavishly replicating it) than any other series.

It's a crossover, that is there are two series.

I binged through the series while I was laid up with COVID. Good show.

I agree, they managed to capture what made the old series interesting (they even put in a few comedic episodes like they used to do) and they gave it a new look. Among all the spinoffs and adaptations, I believe it's the best one, much better than Picard and Discovery. Lower Decks is also a winner IMO. You should give it a try.

I agree, and yeah, I plan to watch Lower Decks at some point.

I can't think of a single Star Trek TV show or movie that I'd personally recommend.
I do remember being amused by a replay of The Trouble with Tribbles once when a bunch of us spent a weekend tripping off Caladesi.
I never quite got the Star Trek bug.

Really, the whale one? I never saw the original series other than as reruns. There was way too much going on in the real world in those days, but we did watch reruns later on, possibly influenced by homegrown and mushrooms. Although it didn’t stand up to great SF, many of the shows had moments. There were several dealing with racial and military issues. The Kiss wasn’t much on story, but did upset the racists enough to make it worthwhile, while the one where they marooned their soldiers returning from a forever war because they weren’t fit to live among regular regular people still resonates today.

"The whale one" (Star Trek IV) wasn't "the best Star Trek," but it was probably the most entertainingly accessible for a non-Trekkie.

Yeah, a pill that makes your kidneys grow back in five minutes, that was hilarious.

The best ones with the original actors were the even-numbered ones, IMO. I like them all, though.
