Advertising, for instance, would not work, unless there was a part of the population susceptible to it. I personally find the psychology in advertising simplistic, and therefore insulting, and actively do NOT buy products that use those strategies.
But for a large chunk of the country, the advertising achieves its goal of selling product.
What this means to me is that we need to have very different messages when communicating to both halves. A scientific argument works for me, because I am trained in science, and understand the language. But for someone like Lomelis, who likely considers country music to be sophisticated art, that messaging is not going to work.
We MUST acknowledge our stupid other half, whether it is in politics or public health, or we will continue this cycle of us and them, which clearly is not moving us forward as a nation.

Oh, you mean like somebody's parents or grandparents who send their kids out to shop for groceries, medications, and other essentials? Then those kids get infected by selfish jerks who refuse to wear masks or social distance, and then those kids transmit their infections to their parents and grandparents, who contract covid-19 and if they don't die from it, may wind up with lifelong disability from it?
