When people talk about the greatest rock band ever, they often debate between the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Which band do you prefer?
I give the nod to the Stones. They just rock harder.
And, unbelievably, they’re still making new music.

Beatles. More influential. More diversity in output. More sheer talent. More pioneering.
And I was never a Stones fan.

The Magic 8 Ball Avatar says: Beatles.
I think this was more of a fan thing than a band thing. I think they got alone fine for the most part and likely had a mostly friendly competition. I like the Rolling Stones too, though I haven't bought one of their albums in decades. Welcome The Rolling Stones Good Guys.:

Very difficult because they have so many that are so good for so many different reasons.

That’s funny because The Rolling Stones have been around for 50+ years and the Beatles’ run, unfortunately, was relatively short-lived.

I have to go with The Beatles. The Rolling Stones have some great tunes, but for the most part, they are all just tunes. With the exception of the iconic riff that is Satisfaction, a Gimme Shelter here and a Monkey Man there, and of course my favorite, Torn and Frayed, I don't think most of The Rolling Stones output is transcendent in the way that much of The Beatles's output is.
In fact, at the risk of muddying the waters, I think The Who have a better claim to a song catalogue that will stand the test of time than The Rolling Stones do.
But what do I know. If you told me in the 80s that anyone would remember Wham! or George Michael in 40 years, I would have told you that you were crazy.

Because you're bang on here.

I remember very well the emergence of the Beatles. All of a sudden my straight brown hair became, well, kinda stylish. How old was I? Not gonna tell, but I was in my teens.
I had a buddy who prefered the Stones. I could see his point; the Rolling Stones made better dance music, while the Beatles were more cinematic.
And frankly, those were the days, my friend.

My two favorites are from the late 1960s-- Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed. Most excellent.
