We happen to have cats and a dog, and all the hair that goes with them.
I decided to pony up some $$$ and get a mid ranged model. Reviewed as one of the best in that range, and man I love this thing.
It has mapped my house, and I can tell it to clean various rooms whenever I want, and it just goes along and cleans them then returns to the dock and empties into the base station.
I have it cleaning my whole house at least once daily now, if not twice, in some of the common areas.
It does take just a little bit of care. I have to keep things picked up, although it will navigate around most things. The only real issues so far is that there was a shoestring left on the floor and it got hung up around the spinner doo dad, and the bathroom rug was too shaggy and small and got sucked in and hung up the vacuum.
