...of pundits.
To understand why, we have to know what. NCAAF is consolidating into two mega conferences, the Big 10 and SEC. Why? Because these two conferences have bexome the most profitable.
Why are they the most profitable?
It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Cable networks have covered the SEC and Big 10 as the best conferences. They did that because they have the most viewers. If you, as cable news show, want viewers you hype up the teams with the most viewers. Positive hype creates warm fuzzy feelings in the viewers and they watch more.
If the cable news talks about how great the teams in these two conferences are, the best players in high school form preconceived opinions. The opinions lead the best players to go to the hyped schools. The hyped schools then become the best schools.
The problem with this cycle was amplified when Tim Tebow won his challenge that he should get paid by video game makers for using his image and likeness. Now, all players can get paid by outside sources in what is termed NIL (Name Image Likeness) deals. And who has the most money for those deals? The same schools that are hyped by the pundits.
The end result is that the SEC and Big 10 are becoming mega conferences. Pretty soon, no school outside of the mega conferences will ever be able to compete. That will leave the National Collegiate Athletics Association title eligibility to less than 30 schools out of 120.
This is the implosion. One quarter of the schools will remain competitive and the rest will become irrelevant. Those that become irrelevant will lose broadcast contracts and eventually the NCAA will become a 30ish team league.
I don't like pointing out problems without solutions. Therefore, I will say this: The NCAA should require conferences to have an even mix of schools rated by TV and in person viewership. I would rank schools in four categories: A-D. Top schools

That definitely seems to be the direction things are going in, although I think the Big 12 and ACC will also wind up as “super conferences.” Once one of the premier leagues, the PAC-12 now is pretty much doomed. And the mega leagues will pick from its carcass.
I don’t necessarily mind, though. The idea of super conferences is pretty exciting for me, with top power games every week. The lesser conferences can form their own playoff system.
As for the NIL thing, I think the NCAA should negotiate a “cap” on how much athletes can get. The NFL and NBA have salary caps, so why not college football?

Could be it has something to do with the big fat cat pro team owners refusing to allow any southern cities to host a football or even a baseball team for over 45 years, leaving us to support our college teams. sec teams year in and year out play the toughest schedules in the country. Your way could easily result in sec teams in the top 8 or 10 spots.

The sec is the strongest conference and we didn't play and beat each other because it would be silly for us to play the little teams.

You still done understand. It's what you said. Requiring teams with big fan bases to play teams with small fan bases. I'm so sorry your team can't fill an 80 or 90 thousand person stadium.

Oh, maybe it would indicate an active fan base. I'll stick with enjoying top level teams playing each other. Enjoying 6 wins in a row over Alabama sure beats a win over Jackson State.

Outside of Bama and Georgia, who's been consistently good? Anyone?

The video I posted was my team beating bama 6 in a row. Florida once dominated uga, things change, ol miss, Texas a&m, lsu. Capping scholarships largely created parady within the sec. I agree that parady with the teams you play is a good thing. It makes for exciting games even if you lose more.

Although they won, ya gotta keep in mind that bammer played the #116 USF cows and sec #45 mizzu did beat overrated Kansas.

Bama looks pretty bad this year. Sure enough and I love it - on general principles. My teams ain't got much either. bama was @#1 when they played #96 mtsu, and today at #10 bama playing #116 USF But k-sue says the sec only has 2 teams, bama and Georgia.

Bama looks pretty bad this year. Is that a shot? I think (hope) it's true, but from what I saw on Saturday, either everyone sucks, or there's a lot of sameness out there. I have a lot bigger problem with big money espn dictating so much of what the ncaa is doing wrong. I miss the old days where the conferences fielded their winner in their own bowl against an invited team with the bigger conferences all playing overlapping games on New Years Day without any input from TV money. A TV or two in every room, good food and good beer and at the end of the day a lot of disagreement over #1.

There’s something to be said about the fun of “mythical” national championships. They made for some fun debates.
