Fruits are partly a mixture of sweetness and acidity. The sweetness and the acidity hurt your teeth. The acidity hurts your stomach. That's why it's preferable to eat them at the end of a meal so it's mixed with non acid food and also so you can brush afterward and protect your teeth.
So as a meal closing dessert I prefer fruits when they are an ingredient of something elaborate. However I like an apple once in a while.
