Used to be (and in some circles, still may be) the worst thing one could call any fellow American was a "commie". At least in the 1950's through the 1970's.
Although, obviously, with the fall of the USSR and its satellite states, those days, while not completely over (there's still China and North Korea), are rather diminished.
Fascism and militant communism have more in common than one might suspect.

I remember as a kid the saying "better dead than red" but these days it's backward. It was a national anthem against communism. These days red is a badge of honor and many Republicans side with Russia over Ukraine, including the former president in name only.

Why not the same for right wingers? Sure, the Nazis came up with some fashion faux pas, like those light brown round caps that looked pretty lame, but for the most part they did fairly well. Yes, their ideology sucked big time, but their fashion sense wasn't half bad. |

Fascinating. Interesting that the perspective on fascism changed so much after the 1920s.
Makes sense though. The communists were beaten back in Italy and elsewhere. It was really Naziism that was the truly villainous ideology, and that came later. Fascism itself is alive and well within Western progressive nations. We just don’t call it that, and instead use fascism as the pejorative when we really mean Naziism.
Perspective is amazing.
