I honestly cannot say it's one of my favorite tunes, but I can say I like the Kingsmen version much more than the Kinks version.

Which is a detailed discussion of why the song was so investigated (including by the FBI). All I remember is being told by some teachers that the song was bad and we shouldn't listen to it. So of course, we did. Musically, it's sort of insipid, IMHO.
