This was played today on a local TV station, with way too many commercial breaks. Luckily I found a copy of the movie I had recorded some time ago from a local PBS station, commerical-free.
It starred Jack Nicholson in 1975, who was the final choice of a number of more well known actors who were passed over for one reason or another. The film won five academy awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Milos Forman), Best Actor (Jack Nicholson), Best Actress (Louise Fletcher), and Best Screenplay (Adopted from other material).
It was the highest grossing film of 1976.
I don't want to spoil the ending for those who've never seen it.

While OFOTCN wasn't Nicholson's first movie, it was the first where he received an Academy Award.

In the end, Nicholson’s character got the crap beaten out of him by his neighbor and went cuckoo.

Oh, you should definitely try to catch the movie, the next time it airs on your local PBS station. Or, do you have PBS up in Canada?

I think there is on certain cable packages, but not on ours.

Never saw that movie, but I read the book. One day... As (nearly always) the book was far better, but the movie was great. Same for his other book, Sometimes a Great Notion. The novel even bests the movie version starring Paul Newman, Henry Fonda and Lee Remick. Interestingly it was Kesey's participation with the Merry Pranksters that introduced him to the Hollywood who would make that make his first movie. The movie version had a different name
