The A's are 9.5 games out of first place. In the third week of April! They may be in the annals of futility. 120+ loss season? Big deal. A few seasons ago the Chicago White Sox were in first place a full 10+ games over second place after just about a month and finished the season in almost last place. It's 162 games. It's baseball. Is this a prediction for the A's?

Not sure who's even on the team, but they've lost some pretty good ones in the past couple. Can't keep 'em, but unlike TB, can't find ways to replace them with unrecognized, unheralded, legitimate talent.

Last place is all but assured.

My Dad is a big Shohei Ohtani fan. For his birthday I got him a set of Ohtani Funko Pops: one of him as a batter, and the other of him as a pitcher.

We went to a few games when Suzuki played winter league ball in Hawaii (this was right before he got promoted to the major leagues). This was way back in the early 1990s. He played for the Hilo Stars.

And IIRC, Babe was only a two way player for three or four years (after starting as primarily a pitcher) before going to the outfield full time (no DH then). Ichiro came from the Japanese majors to Seattle (didn't know he played minor league in Hawaii). He was so freaking good and dedicated he could be anything he wanted to be. He had every tool. If he had wanted to be a slugger or pitch he could have. What he chose was to hit for average and play outfield. His year round dedication was almost maniacal.

Ouch.
How about them A's!
Below the Mendoza line at .188 and 13.0 games out a month into the season.

Just watched my Jays bomb five games in a row, including an entire series to what was the bottom of the division Red Sox. They faced the unexpectedly successful Pirates today and beat them, so hopefully they've turned it around. But the Red Sox...sneakily better than we thought...

My Cubs just ended a four game losing streak to get back to .500. The good news was the whole NL central was on a combined 18 game losing streak and the Cubs didn't lose any ground. They just called up two prospects, a 25 year old lefty first baseman whom hits for average and power that should be the Rizzo replacement we've been waiting for. The other is a double A catcher that should also be the future. He is an injury replacement and probably won't stick this trip.
