This "statues of bad people need to go" thing is, in my view, mistaken. Leave 'em up, but add some context. Orwell's line, quoted by Paleocon, is very appropriate. Distortions of history are easier to propagate without evidence. It would be better if they were moved to be displayed in a place more appropriate. Where the majority of these things were put up, a large amount sponsored by the trashy women of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, it was to remind black people who was in charge. Wow, you just post one lie after the other, don't you, Dinky? Not one of those statues mentioned blacks or slavery. No depictions of anything like that, yet these morons pretend that's why those monuments were erected.
If your narrative was anything but worthless, you wouldn't have to make up these kind of lies.
As I said before, these statues are being removed because the perverted ideology of liberals is inferior and cannot survive unless the symbols of real heroes and their struggles are hidden and destroyed. They know damn well that the Southern fight was not about slavery and they are terrified that statues like these will cause people to find out for themselves.

That is the irony of those who dislike statue removal of seditionists. They claim that history is being removed, but we still teach it, names and all, in our history classes. THAT, is where most Americans learn about these people, not from a statue that will only be seen by a tiny percent of the country during their lives. I basically concur. A bronze statue of some historic figure tends to legitimize whatever nonsense they were flinging about. Now, Robert E. Lee, by all accounts, was an honorable man, but had the misfortune of mistaking his allegience to his region as a legitimate allegience to his nation. Slavery of course was an atrocity for which the whole United States has had to work to rectify for the past 150 years. And we're still not done with that.
