I'm not even sure that it can be argued that Wilson was the lesser of two racists, but I do know that people who don't get that America as a nation encompasses racism as a key and enduring institution are at best misinformed, and at worst, racists themselves.

If only we could also dump his foreign policy ideas... SourceThat was a fascinating read. We are still living in the age of Wilson foreign-policy wise. Trump is the first serious break with that kind of rhetoric. The part of the article about liberalism offering a pathway to rationalizing expansionist foreign policy is insightful and sobering. I am familiar with the history regarding Wilson re-segregating federal offices but the part about the march of the 10,000 ex-confederates (and Wilson's response to them) is news to me. It definitely puts Wilson in an ugly light. As an aside, FDR also has some skeletons in the closet on this front. I just picked up a new book analyzing his anti-semitism: The Jews Should Keep Quiet: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, and the Holocaust.

I wish he cared as much about the virus as he does statues and names of buildings. Would be nice.

He can't handle the fight. He doesn't want to be re elected and spend 4 more years swimming against the tide. Augustus will reign. Once we get done fighting in the streets with clubs and shields that is and maybe a little purging of the political undesirables that is. The first century BCE called. Rome wants their domestic unrest back. Queshank

Man, when it comes to people leaving his name alone, Marion Morrison just can't catch a break.

Rome wants their domestic unrest back. Queshank The Rome reference is a good one, especially since their tyranny began in earnest with Octavian (Augustus Caesar). Augustus was pretty good both at purging undesirables and keeping the mindless plebs happy. Later emperors had to give in to the barbarians/vandals; unfortunately we're having to deal with ours now.
We are likely following the Roman way to ruin: bread and circuses to feed the narcissism that replaced pride in Roman heritage and history. At least they perfected the art of just replacing the heads of statues after a regime change. Very efficient.
The Republic is dead! Long live the Republic!
I take exception, however, to the statement that Trump "doesn't want to.....spend 4 more years swimming against the tide." That's always been his specialty; it would be like throwing a fish back into the water as punishment.
BTW, the "BCE" in place of "BC" was an ironic touch. The atheists are great at purging anything that might denote Christianity.
