And we keep throwing money at public education and getting worse and worse results. Not just among the African American population but across the board.
And the answer is always "we need more money." Even tho we spend more than any other Western countries on education as it is. And the results keep trending downwards.
But I'm sure the problem is more money. That'll fix it. "clearly it's not enough." No. It's not. Money isn't the problem.

A few posts ago, racism wasn't the problem, poverty was. Now, money won't solve the problem because why? In order to make those two statements and relate them, you must buy in fully to the notion that poverty is solved through government spending. That’s the only way you could make those two statements and see it as some sort of obvious contradiction.

I am under no obligation to buy into any of your argument, especially the part that accuses me of ideas that you have about me and my argument that I myself do not have. That being said, some of you (I don't have evidence here to include you), seem to argue that by their policies gov'ts can create poverty, or at least pockets of relative poverty, but that they are powerless to eliminate or reduce poverty by other, better policies. IOW, in most/many/all of your arguments, gov't is not only bad. It is the enemy. Since in this country, at least, you and I are the gov't, how is it that you have come to that conclusion? What do you know about you that I don't know about you that would lead you to the conclusion that you, the person whom you know best, are not fit to govern?

2000 years ago there was this liberal guy walking around talking about how giving a man a fish feeds him for a day, and teaching a man to fish feeds him for life.
Are you *still* playing catchup? Fuck, dude. It's been 2000+ years. We really don't have time to keep waiting for you to "get" it.

His inability to see the difference between providing a job for people who need to feed their families and feeding a bureaucracy that continues to devour ever more money with no improvements expected or required isn't just part of the problem. It's the *entire* problem.
In his mind if there's a problem you just throw money at it. He completely sidestepped how much money we're throwing at homelessness in western states, only to see increases in homelessness. Predictably.

I wonder what would happen if Democrats would let African Americans work jobs so they could see light at the end of the tunnel and improve their net value. I wonder what that would do to property taxes in their districts and subsequently ... the schools themselves.

But more importantly, I wonder why so many white kids are doing so poorly in school too.

Ridiculous. Throwing money at anything doesn't solve problems, and you'll never find a post where I argue that it does. All that does is create more problems, or even worse, billionaires. And we all know how many problems they create. Good gov't identifies and helps solve problems. Good policies improve the quality of many people's lives. I realize that you have lost sight of that in your missionary zeal to atone for your liberal past. I haven't.

I haven't lost sight of that Bama. I actually care about the quality of "many people's" lives. Not winning elections.
And as I said ... again...right in this thread ... sometimes being a liberal means acknowledging you've taken a wrong turn and are in a dead end. Like with homelessness. Our approach to schooling. And the current go nowhere approaches being taken to combat "racism."
Not a single black man who is struggling today is going to have their lives improved because Dungeons and Dragons is reconsidering their idea of dark elves being "evil." Not a single black man who is struggling today is going to have their lives improved because Magic: The Gathering is concerned about their use of "white" and "black" cards. Or because Tina Fey wants 30 Rock episodes with blackface removed. Or because Netflix and Hulu are pulling episodes of tv shows that have straight people playing gay parts and white people voicing black cartoon characters.
For fuck's sake, do you think George Floyd would have been helped out if only Cleveland on Family Guy had been voiced by a black guy? Oh the missed opportunities! The lives that could have been saved!
Leftists are literally insane. They correlate things that have no correlation and think they're fixing the problem. A leftist would give aspirin to a victim of the Black Death and declared their patient cured when the fever broke. And argued vociferously for the next 600 years that aspirin cures the plague.

You do realize that all the so-called silly fixes that you describe are corporate decisions, i.e., money driven? Those fixes may have been racially predicated, and they may or may not placate or appease somebody, but regardless, those tweeks are the corporate reaction to people clamoring for change. None of it is actual govt'al policy, unless you are implying that the rich and powerful rule almost everything, you leftist.

Yes I do realize that. I realize corporations are doing what they always do and have always done ... trying to appease their customers.
Let me repeat that. "Trying to appease their customers."
I left "irrational customers" out. Kind of thought it was self evident.

As was the non-responsive nature of your response. Again. That's a ballsy repeated comment coming from a guy who hasn't addressed anything I've said yet.
Like the disconnect between money thrown at the homelessness problem and an increase in homelessness.
Like the disconnect between money thrown at education and a continued deterioration in education.
Like the connection between BLM being dormant for the past few years and record high unemployment for African Americans.
Because you're right bama. It is about "good" policies. And you cannot admit your policy ideas are bad.
Because your goal isn't really "good" policies that work. It's winning elections. And those two are definitely *not* connected.

Queshank I did address your comment insinuating that I had argued for "throwing money" at anything. I said that it was bullshit. I'll repeat it. It's bullshit. You'll not find me arguing anywhere that the solution for homelessness or education or even poverty is "throwing money" at it. You can continue to pretend that I am arguing that which you believe it is within your capacity to defeat, but I will repeat: That is the mainly bullshit component of your mainly bullshit argument. Good policies and good gov't do not usually involve "throwing money" at anything. They involve having good, smart, hard working people in positions of trust and power. "Throwing money" is for the lazy and the corrupt. I am, and I advocate for, neither.

What a typically non responsive response. Pretending that isn't exactly what has been happening in blue states and in blue cities for the past 30 years. That's "something else. Not a predictable result of our policy proscriptions as predicted by many over the years."
Are you calling California and places like Oregon and Washington "lazy and corrupt?"
If so ... you're halfway to enlightenment. Queshank

But more importantly, I wonder why so many white kids are doing so poorly in school too. Queshank Leme guess... 1. Underfunded schools 2. Poorly supported teachers 3. An anti-intellectual culture, especially amongst poorer kids 4. Lack of stable homes especially fathers 5. Poor diet and housing. Any of those?
