I love a well made "film noir" crime movie from the fifties. A couple I've seen recently on TCM are:
"Touchez Pas Au Grisbi" and "Bob Le Flambeur".
Hey, even with a language barrier, they're pretty damn good. Belmondo? Meh... Gabin? Oui OUI!

Gabin and Lino Ventura. Mais OUI!
Belmondo thought he was Steve McQueen...

I know what you’re trying to do, Greg. I’m not gonna take the bait.

Je pence que la film seconde n'est-ce pas "Bob Le Flambeur", mais c'est tres bonne.
Who knew the French had American muscle cars?

"Le Clan Des Siciliens": They go to America to rob a fortune in jewels but it's in Paris that a French cop gets them... As it should be.

Being an old timey "cinephile", I love it that the French can do "cool" on a budget. Bogart, McQueen, Coburn... Cool. Jean Gabin. Belmondo, Alain Delon... Cool on a budget... Right before COVID hit, my family and myself went on a Disney cruise to Europe and the Med. We hit port in Cherbourg France. Walking through the market area downtown, I saw bunches of umbrella's strung up on utility poles all over the place. Then it hit me. The movie "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg". I'd seen it years ago and, I'll be damned, here I was. Life can be strange sometimes. Greg
