I was in the French equivalent to the American high school, junior high to be precise and the postgraduate school I had my eyes on demanded a certain level in English (for reasons that need not to be expounded upon here), so I added English to my arsenal, a simple procedure in our "high school" as long as your grades are good enough which mine were. You see English is not very useful in Europe in general. For instance, Arte, our most popular European multilingual channel is currently available simultaneously in eight languages, (voice over and/or subtitles) none of which is English and I suspect that we will have Arte in Estonian BEFORE we have it in English. Anyway, I was seeking simple ways of training my budding English and I found that Forums are one way to do it, at least in the written form. After a time I had accounts in several English speaking ones, British, Australians, Canadians and finally Americans... It was all well and good, except that the people were too benevolent, too kind and not very critical of my English which was kind of frustrating. Anyway, that's when I decided that I needed a tough crowd. People that would do me no favors... And Oh boy did I find it!!! Well, I tried outward conservatives but it was really too hard to stay there. After a time of being banned almost immediately... I decided to lower my ambitions, a little and that's when I found the old LNF... It's been a fun ride, a total of twenty years counting the new LNF. Trying to fit in, being as American like as possible and it did work for extended periods of time... Towards the end... years before anyone even suspected my foreign origin. Rabbit strongly suspected something when everyone else was completely fooled and I later found out that it was kind of a blind pig finding an acorn thing since he's now "suspecting" the exact opposite for no reason... Anyway, my initial reasons for posting have lost their pertinence a long time ago... since then I only come to amuse myself... Although it's not as fun as it used to be... Maybe the fact that it was hard and that I walked on a minefield where banning was only a few posts away made it more appealing...

Well, aside from a few grammatical and linquistic quirks, I'd say you are doing darn good for someone who's not a native English speaker.
As I recall, I started out at Democracy Forum, which is kind of dead these days. My handle there was PBTime. Which celebrated Obama winning the presidency, thus it was then Pay Back Time. LOL. When DF sort of hit the skids I found out about LNF and trekked over here.
Normally I don't give a shit where someone is born, as long as they can communicate effectively, which you certainly can. Unlike some native Americans here on LNF who shall remain nameless.
If I could write as well in French as you write in English, I'd consider a move. I did take French in high school (half my grandparents were from Quebec) but I suspect living in France for a year or two would be far better for my French speaking than just sitting bored in some classroom.

I remember you as Trevarian, maybe because that's how I remember Harry referring to you. I could be mistaken. I remember after Trev*Whatever went away, Harry thought every new poster was Trev*. He once accused one of my characters of being you. He was pissed when it turned out to be me. Things were different then. |
