Yes, so many wrestlers have died too young, for a wide variety of reasons. Most are drug-related, as they get addicted to painkillers or steroids.

That's insane. I haven't heard of a lot of them, but there are a lot that are familiar to me. I heard heard of a few of these deaths, but I had no idea so many had died. Very sad. Messed up lifestyle.

Messed up lifestyle. So many different reasons for their deaths. Adrian Adonis and Junkyard Dog died in car crashes. Ashley, Hana Kimura and Daffney died by suicide. Dino Bravo was reportedly killed in a mafia-type execution. Andre died from his abnormal growth condition. Miss Elizabeth died of a drug overdose. Misawa died in the ring during a match. David Von Erich died in Japan after a ruptured stomach or something like that. Here’s a clip of Misawa’s death. It was heart-wrenching to hear all the fans chanting his name, hoping he’d be okay. Misawa was a legend in Japan, one of the all-time greats.

I'm so old that Vince McMahon was an announcer when I started watching.

Captain Lou Alban Classy Freddie Blassie The Grand Wizard
All were managers when I watched. Wrestlers were guys like Bruno Sammartino, Dominic DeNucci, Ivan Putski, Iron Sheik, Bob Backlund, George "the Animal" Steele, Chief Jay Strongbow, the Wild Samoans, Superstar Billy Graham were some of the wrestlers I recall as well.
Used to be televised every Saturday night at 11 PM on WOR Channel 9 in the NYC/NJ area.

I started watching when I was around 3 years old. My Dad would take us to rhe local wrestling shows, and guys like Rick Martel, Jesse Ventura, John Tolos and Chief Billy White Wolf were among the performers. My Dad took us to meet some of them, and Rick Martel carried me around and introduced me the other wrestlers. I don't remember any of that, of course.
We watched both the WWF and NWA a lot in the early 1980s. I enjoyed the NWA shows more, but the pre-Hogan WWWF was pretty fun too.

We started watching some Canadian brand of wrestling (I don't remember what it was called) that featured Rick Martel, the Rougeaus, and Dino Bravo as stars back in the day.

I wikipedia’d Rick Martel, and I think you might be referring to Stampede Wrestling, Stu Hart’s promotion. Stu is the father of Bret Hart. Rick is now 62 and happily enjoying retirement.

Yeah, but there were no Harts wrestling in the stuff we were watching. We saw the ones I mentioned, Abdullah the Butcher, King Tonga, a couple of appearances by the Road Warriors...maybe the Vachons? It's weird, because a lot of them are listed on Wikipedia's page for Stampede Wrestling, but Ray Rougeau is not listed at all, and we were watching him tag team with his brother Jacques. And Jacques (according to Wikipedia) was in Stampede until 1978, and we were watching mid-80s, I think (must have been, because Jacques was signed to WWF in 1986). And there were a ton of names that I recognize from later (Jake Roberts, Tito Santana, Greg Valentine) that we were not seeing on the show I was watching. It was almost like we were watching some sub-branch of NWA or something.
