“Resolved, That foreign immigration, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources and increase of power to the nation, the asylum of the oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encouraged by a liberal and just policy.” - 1864 Republican Platform Those 1864 era Republicans truly deserved the moniker, "Grand Ole Party." The GOP of the 1860's tended to be radical liars. Proof? Here's what their platform of 1860 said:
That the maintenance inviolate of the rights of the states, and especially the right of each state to order and control its own domestic institutions according to its own judgment exclusively, is essential to that balance of powers on which the perfection and endurance of our political fabric depends; and we denounce the lawless invasion by armed force of the soil of any state or territory, no matter under what pretext, as among the gravest of crimes.
And the GOP represented the true "one percenters" of that era, the industrial giants fishing for cheap labor, hence to open immigration part of the platform. They were also heavily into tariffs to protect their industrial fortunes while letting the financial burden fall on the South.

No, you're wrong. They ARE a good thing. And until you come around to understanding that, you will never have a grand party or a great country. Hay, if it is done legally and the way our country meant it to be, not the Marxist way it is still working fine. But with the open borders, and the (D) party using these immigrants as pawns, it is not the same. Time for our laws to be enforced to keep the country from turning into another Venezuela, Cuba or worse. You support a party and candidate that is making war on immigrants and on the process of legal immigration. The 1864 platform would never fly in 2020. There's been a fantastic evolution of ideas. It is time to fix our laws by making sure people like you never have a say in setting immigration policy again.

Could be fake news, but is the 2020 platform really just the 2016 platform? If so, colbert explains early on in the video, or watch the whole video and hear senator tim Scott bemoan the possibility of a utopia if Biden wins. youtu.be/VbIAQxVv83MThat was funny, their misunderstanding of the word utopia.
Oh no, they're going to force a perfect society on us!!!!!

We don't seem to really believe that or we wouldn't be closing our borders to trade and immigration. Logic is just not your thing is it, TL? We wouldn't have the hoards of immigrants at our borders trying to get in if we weren't the "land of opportunity" and "land of promise." We close the borders because there are too many, not too few. Trade restrictions are intended to help us to remain as the "land of opportunity" and "land of promise." Real wealth is generated in the transformation of components of a lesser value to a completed assembly of greater value, not just in the speculation in the success of such things.

soaring under democrats and plummeting under repubs
You constantly stumble over your ignorance. You will never understand this until you learn to think in terms of Conservative / Liberal rather than the VERY dynamic Democrat / Republican.. ..

Not "their misunderstanding"....did you notice that it was a black guy making that mistake? According to the rules, ridiculing a black man's vocabulary mistake will require additional reparations to be paid or cancellation will follow.
Later socialists and critics of utopian socialism viewed utopian socialism as not being grounded in actual material conditions of existing society and in some cases as reactionary. These visions of ideal societies competed with Marxist-inspired revolutionary social democratic movements.

I find humor in it. In trying to point out a flaw, he pointed out a benefit. He was black? Sorry, until you reminded me, I was not aware of that. To me, he is a Trumper, nothing more.
But if he was here and offended, I would definitely apologize.

WTF do you think the revolution was about boy? The painful agony of having the forum idiot call me "boy". And all because he is too fucking stupid to understand my sarcastic response to the other forum idiot. Will I ever recover? Yeah, because sarcasm is so easy to detect on the internet. Boy.

So, you posted a comment on the misunderstanding of the word "utopia" without watching the video, where you would have seen who said it? And you didn't know that Tim Scott, repeatedly heralded ad nauseum in the MSM as the only black Republican Senator, was black?
SMH.

I can see you put a lot of effort into that deduction, so I almost feel bad explaining what actually happened.
I watched pieces of the RNC, stopping frequently to intellectually gag at the flagrant abuses of truth, and I did actually hear that particular part of that person's speech. I laughed, then moved on.
And then was reminded of it in this thread, but could not place who actually said it.
Or I am lying. You decide.

YEs. Republicans used to live immigration. Now they hate it. Sure the numbers and data don’t support it. But who cares. Tl has made a point, something he believes in his emotional heart, and we should all just accept it. Facts and data only tell a tiny part of the story. The real truth is in what one feels. Of course it it supports a political narrative, that helps too

(btw you aren't going to win this new discussion, either, for Trump is waging war on legal immigration. No statistics you care to cite can alter that fact.)

And here I recall Obama bragging, and his supporters bragging, about him being the deporter in chief.
You guys really need to think before you post.
You realize we all have access to google right?
Can we go back to arguing whether or not the shotgun is a long range weapon?
