“Resolved, That foreign immigration, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources and increase of power to the nation, the asylum of the oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encouraged by a liberal and just policy.”
- 1864 Republican Platform
Those 1864 era Republicans truly deserved the moniker, "Grand Old Party."

I think everyone except the Trumpers and far-right conservatives accept that the parties have changed constituents over the years.
The reason those groups don't is because they would have to face their own hypocrisy.

Its really remarkable how clueless some people are about history.
And the irony is it is the same folks who don't know immigration and trade are both a big gift.

Could be fake news, but is the 2020 platform really just the 2016 platform? If so, colbert explains early on in the video, or watch the whole video and hear senator tim Scott bemoan the possibility of a utopia if Biden wins. youtu.be/VbIAQxVv83M

We don't seem to really believe that or we wouldn't be closing our borders to trade and immigration.

Ha ha ha, you morons are unbelievable. Yeah, immigration and free trade were a good thing. And we had laws then that were enforced. You came here legally. You had a trade or found a job and supported yourself and family. You didn’t come running here because you heard you will be given a good life for nothing. And that is all that the Marxist party preaches. What they say in simple terms, give me your money, (through taxes) and we will support our voters. You may not see it, but I do. There is going to be another civil war. If Trump is elected, I hope he uses the military to stop the looting and destroying, injuring people and police so we don’t have to. But if it comes, it will be like a party for myself, friends and the real militia. Of course I was at the range again today, as every Wednesday and Sunday, and I know that the people there, and myself don’t miss.

Yeah, immigration and free trade were a good thing. No, you're wrong. They ARE a good thing. And until you come around to understanding that, you will never have a grand party or a great country.

The beauty of a discussion like this, or perhaps the political ugliness, is that you can actually look up how many immigrants come to the country each year, and also where they came from.
Arguably, both the number of immigrants coming each year along with the number of places they emigrated from are a couple of metrics that would indicate if a country encourages or at least is supportive of immigration and diversity of immigrants.
The obvious lack of this data in the thread, speaks to the ignorance on the subject. But I suppose some will always try tonpoliticize everything, with no supporting data or evidence.

You're just being rude because you don't like me. I am making a point about the change in the platform. And I don't need immigration statistics to do so.

It has nothing to do with like or dislike. If you have dat and facts that show immigration and diversity of immigrants soaring under democrats and plummeting under repubs over time I think you would use that to make your case.
When Castro emptied his prisons and sent the inmates to south Florida crime and murder skyrocketed, as you’d expect. Would you consider those immigrants good for policy. I’d hope not.
A good immigration policy is a great thing. Especially when we have the birth rates we do

Hay, if it is done legally and the way our country meant it to be, not the Marxist way it is still working fine. But with the open borders, and the (D) party using these immigrants as pawns, it is not the same. Time for our laws to be enforced to keep the country from turning into another Venezuela, Cuba or worse. Wake up dummy.

It's never changed. The only caveat to immigration is that immigrants must follow a process. If they do that, welcome home! If they don't, well son, you gotta go.

The painful agony of having the forum idiot call me "boy". And all because he is too fucking stupid to understand my sarcastic response to the other forum idiot. Will I ever recover?

What are you talking about? This is a strawman argument. Go back and read the post again. Stop trying to move the goalposts.
