SourceThe US State Department reaction: US blasts Turkey’s Erdogan for meeting with Hamas leaders. Do we have a plan for dealing with Turkey? Maybe an overall - dare I say, "grand" - strategy that that would fit into (since it overlaps with NATO, the ME, Africa, etc.)? In short, what the hell are we doing? For example, Trump's 50 point agenda includes, "Wipe Out Global Terrorists Who Threaten to Harm Americans." Are we reading that narrowly (since Hamas doesn't really pose a threat to Americans)? Or are we giving that the broad reading we've always given it (which would put it in conflict with his other point, "Stop Endless Wars and Bring Our Troops Home")? If the latter, then how do we approach what's happening vis a vis Turkey?

I suppose Putin would not be disappointed to see a growing rift between Turkey and the USA, as well as split open NATO.

Turkey is not acting as an ally; it's run by an autocratic Islamist; is explicitly working against our stated interests in a number of areas (whether or not those are vital to our security is another matter); and is stoking conflict against other NATO members (e.g., France and Greece). And its been headed that way for quite a while now. We can either recognize the reality of the situation and address it (reevaluating our role in the ME, reevaluating NATO members and its role/function, cutting Turkey off from US funding and equipment, etc), or we can continue with our dysfunctional approach (the President praising Erdogan while he undermines us at every turn).
Also, Ergodan's Neo-Ottomanism isn't going to play well with Russia, so some long-term realignment with Russia isn't likely, just a short term modus vivendi.

I used Google translate on this article (since I don't read Arabic), but interesting article about Erdogan's perception of the ME: "This is because Erdogan describes the Middle East as our 'old geography', and claims that Turkey has the right to 'military presence' in countries including Qatar, Libya, Syria and Iraq, and this Turkish "logic" is the Israeli 'logic' and the Iranian 'logic.'" It’s ok, according to Trump just last week, Erdogan had been very good. 😂

Are we gonna need another Lawrence?
First, though, we need a new president.

Are we gonna need another Lawrence? France wants to play a bigger role; let Picot handle it.

Some contradictory reports about whether or not Hamas is moving to Turkey:

Letting Turkey into NATO was awful mistake.
Now let me go google how hard it is to remove a member of NATO, because they should do so.
