18 August 2020 This week's Democratic National Convention will be the high-water mark before the collapse of the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris ticket, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich wrote in a Newsweek opinion piece on Tuesday.
Gingrich predicted that the collapse will lead to the same type of devastating defeat George McGovern suffered in the 1972 presidential race. The former House speaker highlighted what he said would be the main reasons for the defeat, starting with his assertion that Biden is “clearly incapable of functioning as president. Every time he comes out from hiding in the basement, it is embarrassingly clear that he could not possibly negotiate with Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping, or Russian President Vladimir Putin, to any positive effect.” He also pointed to surveys that show nearly six out of every 10 Americans think Biden is unlikely to finish a four-year term, declaring “it is hardly an endorsement of your fitness. The more Biden has to campaign and actually appear in uncontrolled environments, the bigger this problem will become.”
Gingrich said this also puts pressure on Kamala Harris to be a strong vice presidential candidate, saying “We already know that she isn't” and contending that she “will prove to be the most disastrous vice presidential nominee since Sen. Tom Eagleton had to resign from the McGovern ticket when it turned out he had been subjected to shock therapy treatments for mental issues.” |

It's a very weak ticket on its own. Its strongest point is being anti-Trump, which means they are playing on Trump's terms. Other than that, the highlight is that the VP is a black woman. But the candidate is an old white man with a history of touchy and racist "gaffes." When Hillary lost, the Dems fell back on "She persisted!" What do they fall back on with Joe? Supporting a misdirected centrist compromise ticket like that and then losing will be demoralizing for the Dems. I think demoralization is really important in politics. If you run a strong candidate and lose, at least you fought the good fight. But if the best you could come up with to run is a junk pile, and then you lose, what do you have to say for yourself? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I see what you are saying, .. but, I DON'T see the Biden/Harris ticket collapsing, and I would be shocked if the powers that be in the demoncrap liberal socialist party DECIDED to SCRAP Harris, and try another VP!  |

Cons getting desperate is not a very becoming look. Desperate? It's McCain/Palin redux. The Democrats have paired two candidates who have failed miserably in all previous attempts at a presidential run. They just do not have any widespread appeal and neither of these Democrats generate excitement among their base, much less among independents and those in the middle.
Biden/Harris is a joke that no one is laughing at.

It is eerily similar to McCain/Palin. Except McCain wasn't as senile as Creepy Joe is now, and Palin was actually attractive, inside and out...and there's no sign that her ascent in politics was accomplished while horizontal under Willie Brown. |
