True. Technically, "professional" used to be reserved for calling to religious orders, then expanded to include other "callings" (like trades, etc.), then was reduced to "whatever you make money doing."

True. Technically, "professional" used to be reserved for calling to religious orders, then expanded to include other "callings" (like trades, etc.), then was reduced to "whatever you make money doing."
So if one is a volunteer one cannot also have a professional approach to whatever it is one is volunteering to do?
Permit me to question that.
The term "professional" has come to mean many things, but essentially it means an intelligent approach to a subject or task that is not necessary dependent upon renumeration.
