I've never cared much about the stock market. I'd much rather follow a market that leverages working people's labor over rich people's money.

Here's an interesting story about a couple in Carolina who bought a classic home, on the edge of condemnation, and restored it.
They paid $155k for it, put another $270k into the renovation, and it's now worth about $900k.
Lesson: In a good location, property is usually the best investment. However, if it's your residence, realizing the profit can mean moving. So there is that.

One investment that is relatively safe is the US Treasury "I-Bond". These are guaranteed by the US Govt, and currently giving 9.62% return. However, there are gotchas: 1) You can only buy $10k I-Bonds each year 2) The variable rate resets every six months. The last six month rate was "only" about 7.2%. This reset May 1 to 9.62%. 3) The return rate is based on combination of fixed and inflation adjusted rates. Currently the inflation part of the rate is set at 9.62%; the fixed rate is set to zero. 4) Looking at the I-Bond history, it appears that the fixed rate tends to rise as inflation subsides. On average it appears that one can get around 2.5% return if inflation drops to nothing. But do check ahead. 5) For full return, you have to hang onto the I-Bond for five years. However you can sell the I-Bond(s) after just 12 months, but the last three months' interest will be forfeit. 6) AFAIK, if you sell an I-Bond before one year is up, you forfeit all the interest payment. 7) Check with www.treasurydirect.gov for full information on the "Series I Savings Bond". None of the above is to be construed as reliable financial advice. And here is a good link from the Detroit Free Press discussing I-Bonds.
Note: once I found out about I-bonds, I purchased $5k at 7.2% interest, and another 5k at 9.62 % interest. The bonds purchased at 7.2% interest will renew at the 9.62% rate in October. Don't know what the bond rate will be when the 9.62% bonds renew in October, but likely it will be between 7.2 and 9.6.

This is interesting. I wasn't aware that Musk was gaming the system with this version of insider trading. But I'm also not surprised.

S&P Futures turned out to be falling, not gaining. Imagine that.
So, CNBC on Monday first said the futures were rising across the board. Then a few hours later, it said they are falling in 2 out of 3.
Can't trust anybody these days. Well, at least the Nasdaq (IXIC) is still up a little. But I would not be surprised if that falls also.

More analysis... Morning BriefOn the one hand, and I'm certainly no economist, higher interest rates may mean more return on bond investments.
But that is tempered by the increasing cost of commodities and labor.
Which is why everyone likes to fight inflation, I suppose. But I remember in the late 1970's when it was totally out of control.
