Not really. This really only discusses the 1991 referendum. There's a lot more that was going on:
In particular, the independence referendum in 1992 was suspended due to the threat of force by Ukraine (which isn't addressed in your link):
Within a few months after independence, secessionist pressures mounted . A group collected over 257,000 signatures for a referendum to be held on Crimean independence . In May 1992, the Crimean Supreme Soviet declared Crimea's independence from Ukraine, but suspended the resolution after Ukrainian President Kravchuk warned Crimea that bloodshed could occur if Crimea tried to assert its independence from Ukraine. www.lse.ac.uk/research/research-for-the-world/society/were-crimeans-really-pro-russian-before-annexationDamn. That was a very nice stomping of the Pro-Russia bullshit on this thread.

This is very simplified and doesn't really address some key points. She says pro-Russian parties did not appeal. If you go back and look at the timeline; that's not entirely accurate. The situation is a lot more complex than that, especially in Sevastopol.
She's also looking at the very limited time period in her book that she refers to: 2012-2013.
It definitely doesn't address the period I'm referring to which was the 90s. Ukraine's actions to oppose Crimean independence and autonomy at this period don't justify Russia's action, but it doesn't mean Ukraine has some inviolable right to Crimea either.

Here is a link to the VG article. You'll probably need to translate that page.

Pretty ballsy thing for those officials to say anonymously when they're not the ones dying.
You can read the original Times report here.

Can you imagine if this thing ends with Donbas and Crimea as part of Russia? Who will have won? Who will have lost? Who will have been right from the fucking start?

Regardless of what you think this war is about, my questions remain. If that’s what happens in the next year or two, who wins? Who loses? And who was right from the fucking start?

The new recruiting slogan is “it’s ok to be afraid.” Amazing.

Not near as deep as Demo's picks, but I highly recommend watching Adam Curtis' Trauma Zone. It explores the happenings in Russia (former USSR) from 1985 through 1999. Watched a few weeks back and I keep revisiting in my head the missed opportunities and sad reality of how Russia got where it is today.
