If you get the message to upgrade your Firefox browser with the "latest" Adobe Flash player, do NOT agree to it. It's a spyware scam!
I will for the time being withhold comment on why this virus scam seems to accompany a certain troll showing up here from CPF/LNF late yesterday.
Here is the url of the scam. Do NOT allow it to do any installs!
And here is a Firefox Support post about it:
I have notified Fiddler/Admin about this.
[EDIT by Maestro]
Thanks for the warning. I deleted the url of the scam and replaced it with a jpeg so people can't accidentally click on the link.

FYI, the annoying Flash Upgrade popups only happen on LNF.

Thanks.
I just thought it suspicious that I am/was getting the flash install popup only on this LNF forum. Usually when trying to type in a new post, it would pop up.
I already refreshed my Firefox, but that didn't get rid of it.
So I went to Tools/Options/Extensions-Themes/Plug-ins.
I found Shockwave Flash was listed but no option to remove it. So I changed its setting from "Ask to Activate" to "Never Activate". That MAY have stopped this problem. Fingers crossed.

"Never Activate" in the Plug-ins Shockwave Flash section seems to have stopped the annoying pop-ups. It would be nice to remove that plug-in entirely but I don't see any option for that.
I understand Mozilla stuck the plug-in into Firefox for compatibility reasons. Eff that.

Proboard's Admin are aware.
Though it may not need to be said .. It's just good practice to never click on a Pop Up..

And, I didn't. I went to Google to research the pop-up url and found that it was suspicious. I wanted to warn the forum because the last thing we need is another pandemic.

It popped up for me when I was posting something on this site. I had no idea what was going on, was just reading something someone had written, and up it pops. I couldn't get rid of it, so called mr crepe in from another room. His comment was WTH, hit a couple of 'dealies', and it disappeared. I asked where it went and he said he had no idea, or words to that effect.

If you hit the back arrow in your browser address bar, it will clear the pop-up and return you back to LNF. But I've had it continuously pop-up over and over even after clearing it each time. The only thing that worked for me, as I outlined earlier, was to disable Shockwave Flash as a plug-in for the Firefox browser. As Mojo pointed out, it's obsolete anyway and not needed. I'd have deleted it entirely but haven't yet seen a clean way to do that in Firefox.
PS-Glad to hear I'm not the only one to run across this virus here, although I'm really not happy that Mrs. Crepe got hit.

If you haven't already...
For Mozilla FireFox
Pop-up blocker settings To access the pop-up blocker settings:
Click the menu button.
Menu and select Options. Select the Privacy & Security panel.
Under the Permissions section, uncheck the box next to Block pop-up windows to disable the pop-up blocker altogether.
Other browsers will have a similar setting.

I just started using the Brave browser today. A little off-topic, perhaps, but relevant because this browser is one of the more secure and it is super fast.

Yeah, I had already had the popup blocker activated. This Flash popup blew right past that, using the built-in Flash Activate plug-in that apparently comes with Firefox. Once I changed if from "Ask to activate" to "Never activate" the popups stopped. One might reasonably assume that "Ask to Activate" would be safe, but the "Ask to Activate"setting on the plug-in must be a security hole the spy ware bug was trying to exploit. And, oddly, only on this forum, and then only starting today.

In the process of fighting this Flash virus, I "refreshed" my Firefox. Which means it wiped out my cookies and passwords. So now I get to try to figure out what they were, LOL. I got locked out of one site because I got the password wrong three times in a row. Fortunately I still have them in Brave, so in a pinch I can just load up that browser until I can do a password reset.
Life in the slow lane.

A heads' up on browsers...
The new Edge browser is built on Chromium, so behaves and even looks like Chrome. Accepts Chrome extensions too, so can load ad blockers, search engines (recommend DuckDuckGo), and other in browser utilities. I've been using the new Edge, alongside Firefox, for a couple months now and definately recommend it.

I've used Chrome for years and had zero popups on this site.

Again, for the third time, if you are running Firefox, check the browser's plug-ins. If it has the Shockwave Flash plug-in loaded, make sure it's set to "Never activate" and shows up as "Disabled". That ended the viral pop-ups on my system (windows 10).
!DISABLE THE SHOCKWAVE FLASH PLUG IN!

I've tried several browsers and haven't had this pop-up thing happen.. IDK .. Some may want to run a scanner/cleaner. I like Glary Utility, Malwarebytes .. but I'm always interested in someone else's favorites..
