The irony is as much as Cheetohead screams we have to open schools and the economy for his own political benefit, the trajectory we appear to be on is going to totally screw us and him going into the election season. You can't bully a virus and ignore science.
Yeah, kinda blows my mind that they are fine with a forced shutdown that we'll eventually have anyway when no one can actually work AND the mortality rate goes through the roof.
It's truly an "I don't care as long as I don't get sick" while ignoring the fact they are setting conditions such that they will get sick.
Selfishness and stupidity is a bad combination.

So what's the implication, some age ranges are more disposable than others?
No. That different age ranges have a different impact on the economy. Duh? I thought you were all about that science stuff? Why do we have to keep explaining the most elementary things to you? Queshank
I think my question still stands. Which age range are you willing to sacrifice for the 'economy'?

50% of the deaths in New York were people in nursing homes. Deliberately killed by state officials sending ill people back to nursing homes to infect the rest of the population.
What impact did that have on the economy?
Go.

All of them. Considering the economy literally is life. Now you. How many starving children in Uganda are you willing to sacrifice with your #American Lives First! approach to the pandemic so you can have a false sense of security? Queshank

Finally an answer!

“When no one can work”... What percent of people who are infected experience very mild or no symptoms?

"Finally an answer?" Did you really think I was going to say I would only sacrifice babies or something? We're all in this together I thought? Except Ugandans. Fuck those people, amirite atreyu? Speaking of babies ... so there's no end to the number of poor children around the world you'll sacrifice so your grandma can attend Friday night bingo? Queshank

No, you weren't saying anything of substance. Yes, we're all in it together, even those that claim to not be. Fuck Ugandans? How about no?.... Poor children? Sure there's an end. We should all work to reduce poverty IMHO.
You're really all over the place.

If by "all over the place" you mean "gone off the deep end again", I'd agree.

On second thought I think maybe the law of large numbers apply to the fact we do not yet know what the mortality rate is. We haven't remotely converged on a number. That makes the most sense given the context.
EDIT: Yep, I'm more convinced after reading the article a third time. 1% is very conservative, the point is we don't know how high it may go, nor how immediate the deaths will be.
1% is “very conservative”, and yet the CDC is currently using 0.65% as their best estimate. www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/planning-scenarios.html#table-1
Why do you care? You don't believe either estimate. What are you arguing?

Lmao! You: “Listen to the CDC! They’re the experts! A 1% fatality rate is very conservative for the virus! It’s probably way higher! Shut everything down!” Me: The CDC says they’re estimating a lower fatality rate than that. You: “Why do you care? ?”

“When no one can work”... What percent of people who are infected experience very mild or no symptoms? What kind of work do you want mild or asymptomatic positive Covid people to do?

That's my point, you don't listen to the CDC yet you are quoting their numbers? To what end? You're not earnestly making a point or debating.
Go ahead, claim a victory over .35% estimate? Sure whatever.... but then you miss the very point of the first post in the thread.

You called 1% “very conservative”. Why? Who is programming you people to always assume the absolute worst, even worse than the “experts” they’re telling everybody to listen to while they also ignore those same experts?

Because I've read enough to know a lot of experts also consider it conservative.
People are ignoring common sense measures to prevent the spread of disease. The number can only increase especially as hospitals are put to their limits as they are in several states now.
(Conjecture and personal opinion which I do not expect you to accept.)
Besides that my intuition and common sense tells me and with growing evidence there are long term effects of covid that could increase it's mortality far into the future. There's real way to account for this because we just don't know what the future holds.
Care to answer cadescove's question now?

Let us not forget the variable of the upcoming flu season. If we don't stop the spread by late fall there could be disastrous consequences.
