The Church Committee found that the FBI and the CIA had secret relationships with prominent journalists and media outlets. This was called Operation Mockingbird.
It was not just foreign. It was domestic as well. Propaganda campaigns. Misinformation. Supplied by intelligence and spread by allies in the media.
I don't know if that's happening now. I assume that it is, as nobody was punished for it in the 1970s. That should be very illegal. And it should be illegal if similar relationships exist between a major media outlet and an individual political party, unless it is transparently stated.
