How about Weaselteeth, later known as Quiller? Oh, yeah, prickly guy. He hated being called kwiller, I do remember that. RIP kwiller. EDIT: And when you see Limbaugh, don't piss on him, even tho' he's on fire.

One I wish was here is Running_Deer. He had a devastating and under-appreciated intellect.

One I wish was here is Running_Deer. He had a devastating and under-appreciated intellect. Well, he seemed to be an expert in dead languages. Does that add up to a devastating intellect? Any secretary who's fluent in three languages has that kind of intellect, like it or not. I know Latin, once you've got the basics it's not more complicated than say, Polish (my mother tongue), in fact it's even slightly easier. Polish being rife with exceptions... which makes things a little tricky.

I did not claim that "he was an expert in dead languages, therefore he had a devastating intellect."

I said that he was or at least seemed to be an expert in some dead languages including ancient Greek and Hebrew (which had been a dead language for many years, if memory serves it was already one back in "Jesus' time"). anyway, what I was pointing at is that his being knowledgeable of several dead languages (at least two) doesn't necessary translate into a towering intellect. What I remember of him is a mean spirited, terse, unforgiving individual that I didn't much care for, as for his expertise, for all I know it was more sizzle than steak, I never took the time to see if he was right, or just pedantic... Most of the things he discussed were way beyond the scope of my interest (for want of a better word).

I found him to consistently not misrepresent somebody's position, even if it was in opposition to his. I do respect that.

I never said anything about misrepresenting one's position, at least not concerning RD, you on the other hand just suggested that I somehow said about RD something that I definitely did not, so concerning YOU I'd say "Physician heal thyself!". You never hesitate to imply what you can't prove by direct quotes, don't you?

I'd like to add that just because you don't misrepresent what someone said doesn't mean that you're treating that person fairly, let alone humanly. RD was a moral pitbull he pounced at you and found a soft spot that he could bite then it was hell to pay to get him to let go of it. I mean Hannibal Lecter was an expert in medieval languages and got hired in that capacity in lieu of a man that he had killed and... eaten... because he was both a universal genius and... a monster.

I had foundational disagreements with Running_Deer, but I was never on the receiving end of that kind of behaviour from him.

It's rare on these fora.

"Misrepresenting someone's point of view" is not only common, most of the time, it's a debating style.

And then an argument ensues based on those implications, clearly made by you, as if you had never made them. That sort of thing is okay as an occasional act. But as daily fare?

Some of you old timers ever wonder what became of our great and good friend Berggeist? He of the back bayou? His beloved pirogue, his even more beloved Catahoulas. And his most beloved heritage. I never knew a person to love his Southern White Male privilege any more gracefully than did our friend Berggeist.
I miss him.

One I wish was here is Running_Deer. He had a devastating and under-appreciated intellect.
I was taking my '67 Chevy Van plus mountain bike up to the hills this morning for a much needed hour of exercise.
Along the way, in a 40 mph zone, I was going less than 30. Sure enough, a young deer ran across the road in front of the van. Luckily the van has a blunt nose and it didn't hit the deer. Still, I shook my head in wonder at the deer's move. I've hit deer twice in the past 40 or so years; once on my motorcycle and once in a vintage car. The deer all appeared to be unharmed; at least they ran off. One left a little pile of crap on the car hood, though. Fortunately this morning's encounter was no-contact. However, hitting a deer on a motorcycle is no fun. I went down, the deer seemed to be laughing. Fortunately I was going up a very steep grade at a relatively low speed, the bike slid only a few feet, and neither the deer nor I appeared to be injured. The bike got some new scrapes, though.
Deer are pretty stupid.
They may be conservatives.

Interesting story. Running_Deer was hardly conservative.

Interesting story. Running_Deer was hardly conservative. Off topic, which is allowed in my own thread: But, knowing that you both minister and play, are you a student and player of the doxology? To or from there, are there any on or off ramps? What else do you listen to and/or play? Tune me in.
