President Biden has vowed to veto the legislation if it is passed in the Senate, however, while Democrats have slammed the bill as “racist” and “xenophobic.”
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act passed through the House by a vote of 221-198 on Wednesday, with five Democrats voting in favor of the Republican-led bill.
If enacted, the legislation will require state election officials to ask about citizenship before providing voter registration forms. There is currently no requirement to provide proof of citizenship in order to receive federal voting forms. According to a recent report from the New York Post, this has led to non-citizens receiving voting forms in 49 states.

When combined with mail-in ballots, the system is *designed* to make it impossible to prove fraud.
Mail-in and drop box ballots should not be allowed, as cameras on the in-person voting stations would at least prevent large-scale fraud by counting how many people showed up vs ballots cast.

I have no issue at all with non-citizens being denied the right to vote. But bills like this make it harder for CITIZENS to vote, especially poor ones, by creating barriers in the process. If a bill made it easier for citizens to vote, while ALSO making it harder for non-citizens to do so, I could get behind it. Freon |
