www.cato.org/blog/more-americans-want-increase-immigration-reduce-itPoliticians on both the left and right should take notice. The long term trend in the culture is to prefer more immigration, not less. You can almost predict the standard Trumpist response: "we support legal immigration (and ignore the myriad ways Trump has looked to limit legal immigration) but we don't support illegal immigration." I'll be honest. I'm not a huge fan of illegal immigration, either. In fact, I have a plan to reduce illegal immigration completely, or nearly completely. (I call it Ellis Island 2.0... with my tongue firmly planted )

(This is going to be such a refreshing and relaxing post to make....I miss being able to make posts I feel good about.)
I can't help but notice, that since politicians started ramping up their anti immigration rhetoric in the early/mid 00's ... this positive trend on immigration has both increased and picked up speed. It's not a recent "anti Trump" kneejerk reactionary response that will disappear the next time a Democrat is elected. It's a long term trend.
We don't even need an Ellis Island 2.0. Similar to eliminating the war on drugs that simply creates a black market for drugs ... we need to eliminate this war on people.
Every single person that comes into the country is both a producer and a consumer of American goods and services. They aren't just our neighbors ... they're our business partners.

And people need to start recognizing ...
The laws that make some immigrants "illegal" ... are what suppress wages. Not immigrants.

Companies are only able to pay "illegal" immigrants rock bottom cash wages because of their illegal status. Legalize them. Fuck the big companies that are fucking over American workers. Stop fucking over people willing to risk death and give up everything they know, just for a *shot* at a better life. We need more people who want to work for a better life here in the States. The people born here want to sit on their asses and whine that Amazon makes them work too hard. Queshank

Are you saying that we should allow ALL immigrants to enter the country, open borders? Q, companies who employ illegal immigrants should be held accountable, ie reeeally stiff fines. Fines which will significantly hurt, not the wrist slap kind.

Queshank What's funny is that this needed to be un-packed at all. Minimum wage laws don't apply to undocumented immigrants, as a single example. These are folks without the same opportunities as documented laborers, ergo they are in a weaker bargaining position, ergo the wage rates they accept tend to be lower than they would be otherwise. That this has to be spelled out... smh

Absolutely I'm saying open borders.
If you live in South Dakota ... that open border with North Dakota having a negative impact on you? How about the open border between Massachusetts and New York?
Why would you want to increase regulations and add more government to this equation instead of downsizing government intrusion into businesses and our every day lives? That makes no sense.

Economists say opening the borders would lead to roughly a trillion dollars in additional growth.

And sure, there's the ole' basic rule that increasing the quantity of unskilled labor decreases the value of unskilled labor. But for fuck's sake. If you were born here in the United States and you're still "unskilled labor" ... you kinda deserve to have to hustle to find a job. If your job is threatened by a Mexican peasant skilled only in being a back for hauling ... you've got bigger problems than immigration. Queshank

Well, if Biden gets elected and the revolution happens, we will probably only be 5-10 years away from "Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism" and then we will be ably to afford every other Mexican their own Dolphin Power Boat.

And its also true that this increase in the quantity of unskilled labor does not occur in a vacuum. Yes, the supply of labor increases but so does the demand for labor as more and more people move in and demand the products of the services of others. And it seems when we net out the result, the increase in production from having more labor, and the increase in demand from having more consumers, swamps any downward wage pressure associated with more folks looking for jobs.

If Biden gets elected the revolution fizzles into nonexistence ... Queshank I should qualify that statement. If Biden gets elected ... an entirely different revolution will take place. Queshank
