It's been seriously suggested and legislation drafted: Source
It's come up again after the kidnapping and murder in Matamoros:
This seems like an incredibly bad idea.

As part of his war on the cartels, Gov. DeSantis seems to be proposing an act of war against Mexico: Source
Sorta seems like DeSantis is proposing a naval blockade of Mexican ports.

Gawd, I sincerely hope DeSantis never gets elected president (or vice president, for that matter).
He's pretty much a nightmare.

Didn’t they do this in clear and present danger?
With fentanyl so rampant with our open borders I can’t see how anyone would do coke or heroine.
I’d focus on the demand side.

Didn’t they do this in clear and present danger? In Clear and Present Danger, the CIA was running a secret, illegal war against the cartels (no naval blockade though). Jack Ryan exposed it.

They also infiltrated Colombia illegally. In the book there was no blockade but there was military interceptions on the border.

The Biden admin can’t even deal with the federal laws being broken at home. Why would anyone think he could do anything outside the us. Or should. Besides. Didn’t Kamala the moron tell us all her strategy was going to fix what’s going on in Mexico and Central America so people there wouldn’t want to flee. What happened with that?

Shit, trump had four years and screwed the pooch. Hard to believe as he killed ISIS in a week and would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. He's godlike. I'm in awe.

He already got away with one illegal assassination (and an attempted one), so why wouldn't he just do more?
And of course, no one has really considered the repercussions of that assassination (in fact, some Congressmen and former Trump officials like to pretend there weren't any), so there won't be any consideration that here either. We'll continue to act like our actions don't have consequences.

I think it's ludicrous to think the US would send active duty armed forces into Mexico for any reason. If sny such action is even being contemplated, it would probably revolve around either CIA paramilitary action or else hired mercenaries. But then again, if all these drugs were legal and regulated, none of this would be a problem. It would also be a hell of a lot cheaper. Not to mention it would put these cartels out of business as far as the US is concerned. Any adult can go buy all the liquor he can carry but there are still more than a few people who don't drink alcohol. ANd it's been legal (again) for about ninety years. If heroin and cocaine were legal I would not go and get any heroin. But I might go and snag some coke now and again even though I've always thought it was over rated.

Plus PP wants a dictatorship in the U.S. and presidents that can commit criminal acts with immunity. Kinda disqualifies him from caring what happens in the U.S. as well.

Ok. Now.
Why is this bad?
Let's start from there just as a thought exercise.

I’d start with why us citizens are doing fentanyl / heroine in the first place. I’d emphasize the demand side.
Then, if someone dealing heroine. Automatic 15 years. No parole.
