Dear Phillip, .. you are a little IGNORANT of REAL history. It was NOT just a red scare, .. there WERE real Soviet agents working in our news media, and worse, ... there was at least one Soviet agent EMBEDDED in the democrat party's TRUMAN administration, .. and his name was Alger Hiss, .. who was a right hand man of Truman and an advisor.

Alger Hiss (November 11, 1904 – November 15, 1996) was an American government official accused in 1948 of spying for the Soviet Union in the 1930s, but statutes of limitations had expired for espionage. He was convicted of perjury in connection with this charge in 1950. Before the trial he was involved in the establishment of the United Nations both as a U.S. State Department official and as a U.N. official. In later life he worked as a lecturer and author.

On August 3, 1948, Whittaker Chambers, a former U.S. Communist Party member, testified under subpoena before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) that Hiss had secretly been a communist while in federal service. Hiss categorically denied the charge. During the pretrial discovery process, Chambers produced new evidence indicating that he and Hiss had been involved in espionage. A federal grand jury indicted Hiss on two counts of perjury. Hiss claimed innocence, .. and lucky for him they had only perjury they caught him lying. However, .. AFTER the Soviet Union COLLAPSED, .. documents were FOUND that PROVED conclusively Alger Hiss WAS working as an agent of the Soviet Union, .. and you CAN find that information. I believe that is what was found in the VENONA PAPERS after the Soviet Union fell  ...

The VENONA Files and the Alger Hiss Case ..

The VENONA files are decoded cables sent from Soviet agents in the United States to Moscow. Transcripts of the intercepted cables were released by the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency in 1995 and 1996. The VENONA transcript with the most relevance to the Hiss case is #1822, sent March 30, 1945 from the Soviet's Washington station chief to Moscow. (The transcript appears below.) If one accepts that "ALES" is indeed Alger Hiss, the transcript indicates that Hiss continued to work as a Soviet agent well until at least 1945, well after his association with Chambers ended in 1938. In truth I will tell you, .. Joe McCarthy was 100% CORRECT, .. about his claims of Soviet penetration in America's institutions AND into some areas of American government. McCarthy's ONLY fault was that he EXAGGERATED it, .. BUT, he did NOT have to because, that 'Soviet Penetration'' was BAD enough and real, ... just as it was at Los Alamos, where the Soviets planted other spies, to acquire America's A-bomb technology, and they DID acquire it from there, and had their own A-bomb in 1948, ... courtesy of Soviet Spying at Los Alamos. As a side note, .. you probably did NOT know that a young prosecutor named Richard Nixon HELPED to prosecute Alger Hiss, .. which is ANOTHER reason as to WHY the filthy liberal news media DESPISED Nixon and helped to BRING him down on the chicken Shit Watergate crapola!
