So that means it's still minutes away.

Still hasn't started.
I tried to link in at the original time, and gave up after about 30 minutes. Now it seems mired in mud again.

That was pretty cool. If you get a chance to watch it, I recommend it. It's only a few minutes.
More images are to be released tomorrow.

Yes, it was cool.
But WAY too brief.

My favorite part was when he said that image represents a portion of the sky that you could cover up by holding up a grain of sand at arm's length. Amazing.

The smears are from gravitational lensing.. (predicted by Einstein's General Relativity) Light from a more distant galaxy is distorted as it passes a galaxy in the foreground ..

Pfft. That's what they want you to think. An alien spacecraft obviously bumped the telescope. Seriously though, that's pretty cool info. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's pictures.

The JW 'sees' in infrared.. It will be able to peer inside such structures to view star formation..

The size of the universe is mind-boggling.
There MUST be other life, intelligent life, even more intelligent than humans, out there.
However if they are really smart, they'd avoid Earth like the plague.

Thanks for sharing.
The technology that went into to that and the number of things that had to go perfect is just mind boggling. We can truly accomplish anything we want to, we just have to want to.

So I'm listening to the video, don't know if they'll cover this, but the reason for the lens flares on the stars being in that spiky shape is because of the hexagonal mirrors. Hubble had it's own lens flares that were completely different due to being a different shape of mirror.

Clear gravitational lensing. Spectacular.
